Feel the fear & do it anyway – Skydiving Kerikeri NZ

Have you got your own bucket list? Is it diving, a place you’ve always wanted to visit, a bungee or skydiving Kerikeri NZ? What a thrill to be invited…

So when your 18 year old son visits you for the first time ever in Northland, New Zealand you want him to remember bits of it forever, so skydiving Kerikeri NZ ticked all the boxes for sure!

We had recently emigrated to Kerikeri and bought Hone Heke backpackers in the wonderful Northland very near to the stunning Bay of Islands. Owning Hone Heke backpackers we are approached by tour operators asking us to share with the backpackers some of the wonderful trips on offer up here in the Bay of Islands.

Now sky diving is something I really wanted to do in my 20s but was not so sure now as I enter my 50s, but as ever I feel fit and healthy and the thought of sky diving with my eldest son was intoxicating.

 

The  day of the jump and we were very, very lucky -blue skies and little wind and we were set to go. A short drive on the legendary Hone Heke backpacker bus to Kerikeri airport and we were all amped and a little terrified!  We were both suprised to see so many staff members but they were well and truly ramping up the organisation for summer so we would be jumping in tandem with 2 photographers  and 2 other staff members each so felt as safe as was possible in such an environment !!!!

A comprehensive safety film and talk through and we were soon up on the plane climbing to 16000 feet and our jump !!!!!

 

I would like to say I enjoyed the wonderful views of the Bay of Island and Kerikeri.

I would like to tell you we shared wonderful laughs and cracks with the wonderful crew.

I would like to tell you Georgie and I swapped funny stories on the way up…..

but….

 

I have to tell you I was terrified from the moment we got into the plane until the parachute opened because that was when I really started to enjoy this experience.

Similar to a bungee jump, the idea and execution of throwing your self off a plane or bridge is similar. Your brain and body are fighting this incredible panic impulse but your adrenalin junkie inside us all is flying !!!!

It really was a very special and surreal moment and one I will remember for ever.

Feet firmly back on the ground….WOW! Skydiving Kerikeri NZ -what a buzz!
